The application period has officially closed for Fjällräven Polar 2026, and we’ll now begin the exciting task of going through your submissions and getting to know you all. In the meantime, you might still have a few questions about Fjällräven Polar…like what (and how) does one eat during an Arctic expedition? On a winter trek, daily calorie intake should be between 3,500 and 6,000 calories, and can reach up to 8,000 calories in extreme conditions. It’s also important to stay well hydrated, as your body loses water just from breathing in the cold, dry air. In this environment, it’s recommended to drink at least four to five litres per day. Preferably in small, frequent portions of 1.5 to two decilitres. Slightly sweetened drinks are best, as they help your body absorb fluids, providing it with energy quickly. But perhaps the most memorable part of food during a polar expedition is sharing every meal together. Sometimes against the stark, dramatic white of the Arctic backdrop, other times in complete darkness with only the crackling fire for light.
