InstagramVideo by @kgznk As fall approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, deciduous trees will soon prepare to shed their foliage. But first, the leaves’ nutrients are transported and stored in specialized cells within tree trunks to fuel next year’s growth.¹ This process dramatically shifts the types of microorganisms that occupy leaves, known as the phyllosphere microbiome. As leaves age and prepare to fall, early research suggests bacterial communities can become increasingly dominated by groups adapted to nutrient-poor conditions, such as α-Proteobacteria—though this has only been studied in a few tree species so far.² This process is a reminder that there’s so much more to seasonal changes than what you see on the surface. ¹ Ullah, A., Akbar, A., & Yang, X. Summer is ending, so now is the time to take it all in. Remembering that everything is interconnected and you and your microbiome both shift with the seasons.¹ Citations: ¹ Cocomazzi, G., Panebianco, C., Vallelunga, A., De Ruvo, D., Del Pup, L., Smeazzetto, S., Antinori, M., Chimienti, V., Maggio, G., Finocchiaro, C., Contu, V., & Pazienza, V. September has a way of changing more than your schedule. As summer ends, daily life often becomes more predictable again: meals happen at steadier times, bedtimes move earlier, travel slows down, and routines return. Your gut microbiome is responsive to those patterns. Research shows the gut microbiome follows daily rhythms, influenced by cues like light, sleep, temperature, and food intake. Meal times can affect gut bacterial abundance and function, while sleep disruption and circadian misalignment can also disrupt microbial rhythms.¹,²,³ That’s why changes in your poop during a routine reset may not be random. Stool form and frequency can reflect shifts in timing, diet, movement, sleep, and the pace. So it’s not surprising that a shift in your routine could show up there too. Type 4 is the goal: smooth, soft, and easy to pass. A steadier routine is not a quick fix. But it is a signal your gut can work with.

The gut microbiome plays an important role in sleep through the gut-brain axis, helping regulate compounds tied to circadian rhythm, relaxation, and restorative sleep.1 PM-02® is formulated to target the gut-brain axis to support natural, restorative sleep-wake cycles over time, going beyond simple sedation. So, as we get back into a rhythm this fall, consider adding PM-02™ to your routine. 💤

As we return to routine, it can also be helpful to return to tools like the Bristol Stool Chart. The Bristol Stool Chart helps classify stool by shape and texture, giving you a simple way to notice how quickly things may be moving through your digestive system. Type 4 is the goal: smooth, soft, and easy to pass. Save this for your next back-to-routine gut check or send to a friend.

Why is the human eye drawn to circles? Research has shown a preference for curved visual objects,¹ but no one has been able to fully explain it. Researchers do have a few good guesses: Visual fluency— Circles are made from constant curvature, a smooth geometry the visual system may be especially good at recognizing.³ Threat avoidance— Sharp, angular contours trigger a more negative emotional response than curved ones, possibly because they read as signals of danger — like teeth, claws, or broken edges.² Intrinsic pleasantness— More recent research suggests people may not only dislike sharp angles, they may also find curved forms visually pleasing in their own right.¹

Video by @seymen.b Flamingoes move through life in unison. Flocks travel together, and once they find a suitable site to breed, thousands of them will perform a collective courtship display.¹ Flamingos will then lay eggs at similar times and raise young together within complex social networks.² As the birds travel and breed in community, they rely on microscopic life to stay fueled: algae, diatoms, and tiny invertebrates in shallow waters serve as abundant energy sources to support a growing flock.³ ¹Perrot, C., Béchet, A., Hanzen, C., Arnaud, A., Pradel, R., & Cézilly, F.
