Happy #UsedBookWednesday! Here's what bookseller Desiree has for you this week: "Used Book Wednesday 9/9- Even MORE used books! Last week we expanded our used book buying days to include Mondays and Tuesdays. I just had my first used book buying shift in 2365 days and I came across this fantastic Transformers The Autobots’ Secret Weapon destined for our CH- Pop Culture section in Rose. It was in the same buy as a copy of Dungeon Crawler Carl in trade paperback that looked as though one corner had been chewed on by an actual cat. Speaking of Dungeon Crawler Carl… Tuesday I nearly missed my bus stop because I was reading The Gate of Feral Gods. Some books are not “commute books.” (I know this and yet I’ve been hauling this tome around for a full week now.) I found this copy of Simca’s Cuisine by Simone “Simca” Beck on a Home and Garden cart. Simone was one of the Trois Gourmands responsible for Mastering the Art of French Cooking. This one has its errata still! (Errata- Mistakes and misprints discovered after the book has been printed; also called corrigenda, and in some early books ‘faults escaped’) Finally, a photo of Bibliomania or Book Madness History Symptoms and Cure of this Fatal Disease by Dibdon. First published in 1809, this set is a special edition from 1903 and the reason I can’t bring my wallet to work with me. See you in the stacks!"

It’s “Powell’s Books, Used & New Books” for good reason. When Walter Powell started out, he bought up every marketable used book he could get his hands on, eventually collecting so many that he had to house them all in a former car dealership — the site of our Burnside store today. We wouldn’t be Powell’s without a vast and varied collection of used books, which is why we’re expanding our book buying hours! You can now sell your used books to Powell’s at any of our three city locations, Burnside, Hawthorne, and Cedar Hills, Friday through Tuesday, 10 AM – 5:30 PM. We can’t wait to see what books you bring in — and who will later discover them on our shelves.
