We all carry marks. What matters is what we do with them. The body learns to cope long before the mind understands what it’s coping with, and that shapes how we walk, how we hold our shoulders, how we move through a room and through a life, until the wound quietly becomes our identity, long before we know it’s happened. The body can also be where the undoing begins, 41 days connected to land, 564 miles walked and 555 more ridden, one step and one stride after another, until the nervous system starts to loosen and rewrite itself and there’s more space inside than there was before, the heart catching up to the feet because it doesn’t always lead. What’s left afterward is worn into the leather and worn into the body, proof that something moved. The body went first, and the rest followed. The mileage is the same for every man who walks it.
