InstagramIs learning something new on your summer to-do list? This year, some of our team members have been experimenting with sewing their handwoven fabrics! If you're a 4-shaft weaver looking for an engaging project, the Bless Your Sol tote is the perfect way to play with color & construction! All you'll need to do is warp and weave the fabric in 3/2 cotton, and follow the easy instructions (with tips & tricks for handling handwoven fabric!), and then stitch the bag together on a sewing machine. For any leftover fabric, there are instructions for making a little zippered pouch to tuck inside! Berroco Stratto's cotton/Merino blend is a dream to knit up, and the Coloma Cardigan is its perfect background. This oversized boyfriend cardigan is a lovely extra layer for cooler summer nights & early autumn, and since Stratto is bulky & worked on larger needles, this effortless sweater will knit up extra quick! What're you wearing to Rhinebeck this year? Our Northeastern weather can be a bit unpredictable in October, but one thing's for sure: you can never go wrong with a wool blend sweater! We love the Barre Sweater from Tahki Yarns for its twisting cables and classic shape that looks great on everyone. Its name is inspired by the Green Mountain State, but we think it'll do just fine in Dutchess County! 🧶🐑 Featured design: Barre Sweater - originally knit in now discontinued Tahki Yarns Vermont, Valley Yarns Becket would be a lovely substitute! Brand new crocheters, this is for you! What's the difference between these three basic crochet stitches? The yarn overs! You can create a simple stitch pattern by combining single, double, and treble crochet stitches in one row, or add height by alternating rows of singles, doubles, and trebles. To make 1 single crochet stitch, insert your hook under the stitch, pull up a loop of yarn, yarn over, and pull through both loops on your hook To make a double crochet, YO once, insert your hook under the stitch pulling up a loop (3 loops on your hook), YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through 2 loops again! To make a treble crochet (aka a triple), YO twice, insert your hook under the stitch and pull up (4 loops on your hook), YO and pull through 2 stitches 3 times! Take a look at our flat crochet swatch and watch us fill it in with some simple stitches.

Did you drop a stitch in your stockinette? 😱 We usually fix it by laddering up! First, find your dropped stitch. You can keep it in place with a locking stitch marker so it doesn't drop further down the row or round you're currently knitting. If you place your work flat, wrong side down, you'll see the long strands of slack yarn - those are your ladder rungs. Insert a crochet hook (we like one either the same size as your working needle, or a size or two smaller), through the front of your stitch and pull each ladder rung through the loop until you reach your working row! 🧶 Did you know that you can take classes online or in person at our Northampton, MA store? Visit the Learning Center at yarn.com to check out knitting, crochet, spinning and weaving classes for all levels! #learntoknit #knitting #knittingtutorial #knittingforbeginners

Summer is just about here, and we're packing a knitting bag to take to the shore! Do you get a lot of your knitting or crochet done on-the-go?🧶✈ If you're like us, you carefully pack your project bag and it spends more time in the room than on the trip! What's the furthest from home you've worked stitches? Or, if staycations are more your thing, where's your favorite spot to craft? 🌏💭
