My grandfather is 94 years old and he’s in the final days of his life. One of the hardest things for him right now is that his body has atrophied, and he’s lost so much muscle that he’s no longer able to take care of himself on his own. And that is a very real concern as we get older. So these new trends of injecting Botox into our traps, our calves, and various muscles of the body to make them smaller and more “aesthetically pleasing” are truly scary to me. Maybe there’s something I’m missing. But as a woman in my 40s, my priority is building strength in my muscles and my body, not intentionally making my muscles smaller. And I get that some people are doing trap Botox for relief from tension and stress in their shoulders and traps. But for the cost of Botox, you could also commit to regular massage therapy, physical therapy, or looking into the root of WHY your traps are so tight that they’re creating tension in your neck and head. I just think we have to stop with all of the instant quick fixes and doing anything at any cost to fit a certain aesthetic mold, and start thinking more about longevity and our actual health. Every single day I get more messages from women telling me about serious side effects they believe they’ve experienced from Botox, some of which they say have been life-altering. And it scares me that so many of the women I see participating in these newer cosmetic trends are really young and may not be thinking very far beyond the aesthetic result they want right now. And listen, if you disagree with me or this brings something up for you, I’m happy to talk about it. I’m not angry. I’m here to listen if you have another perspective.
