Ever wonder why some retinoids feel stronger? Think of it like a ripple in water. Your skin cells only react at the very center: retinoic acid. Prescription formulas (like tretinoin) land right at that center point, ready to work on contact. It's instant, but that potency can easily irritate sensitive skin types. Everyday retinoid products start further out. The farther from the center they begin, from retinyl, to retinol, to retinal, the more your skin has to do the work of converting them inward. That distance is what makes them gentler and slower-released on your skin barrier. Think of it as a built-in speed limit to keep your skin happy.

Mineral vs chemical is the internet’s favorite debate, but what’s the science? UV rays carry energy. Mineral filters like a WW Simplified: mineral bounces UV away like a mirror; chemical absorbs & transfers like a prism. Different physics, same result: protected skin.

Salmon DNA on your face. We know how that sounds. Here's what PDRN actually is, why dermatologists recommend it for mature skin, and the one thing to watch for: if your barrier's already reactive, ease in slowly rather than layering it with a stack of other actives.

PIH and PIE aren’t the same mark, but this routine was built to support both. PIH shows up brown or dark, it’s excess melanin your skin produced while healing. Vitamin C helps interrupt that pigment production, while niacinamide works alongside to block pigment transfer to the surface. PIE shows up pink or red, it’s tiny leaky blood vessels near the surface, so it calls for calming rather than brightening. Niacinamide helps here too, alongside tranexamic acid, which can support both concerns by targeting pigment activity and inflammation. And the one step all marks need, regardless of color: SPF. UV exposure can worsen or prolong PIH and PIE alike, so protecting the skin underneath is an essential part of the treatment.

Started making things with our hands again around the same time our skin started seeking attention. Not sure the two things are unrelated.

Used to be “here, I have extra gloss” in the club bathroom. Now it’s “here, try my SPF” in the studio bathroom.

What ingredient are you most skeptical of? PDRN, NAD+, peptides, EGF — we get it. Ingredient fatigue is real.

Spoiler: we’d skip it. Hydration layering has taken a new name in every decade. Hormonal skin changes are stressful enough. You need formulations that treat, hydrate, and soothe all in one. If your goal *is* to look like a dewy dumpling, we’ll follow-up with Katy 😉 Every Murad product contains Replenicell™️ technology, supporting hydration at the cellular level. More hydration = better product efficacy.
