An enhanced Promotions experience: track competitor promotions across email, SMS, and social

Competitor promotions move across channels. Now you can follow them.

Promotions move fast, and they rarely stay in one place. A competitor might announce a sitewide sale by email, push an early-access code over SMS, and tease the next drop on social, all in the same week. If your view covers only part of that, your read on their strategy is incomplete.

This week, we're launching an enhanced Promotions experience in ShopVision. It captures promotions from more channels and classifies them with a new taxonomy built for competitive comparison. You'll work with the results in a redesigned Explorer and through a faster, more consistent Agent.

Track competitor promotions on SMS and social

ShopVision now captures promotional content from four sources: website screenshots, email, SMS, and social. Until now, detection relied on screenshots and email.

That gap mattered. Brands increasingly stagger offers across channels, and some run promotions exclusively on SMS or social. A text-only flash sale or a social-first discount code never appeared on a homepage, so it never appeared in your reporting. Now it shows up alongside the rest of the campaign, and you can see how a competitor sequences an offer from one channel to the next.

We also evaluated paid ads as a source and chose to leave them out for now. Ad data skews toward static prices and stale snapshots, which would add noise to your promotions reporting. We'll keep evaluating it.

How ShopVision classifies competitor promotions

Plenty of what appears on a competitor's site looks like a deal. A free-shipping banner, a markdown price, and a 20% off sitewide sale each say something different about strategy, and they belong in different places. The new taxonomy sorts promotional content into three categories:

  • Limited-time promotions. Campaigns and events with a defined run: sitewide sales, gift-with-purchase, BOGO, spend-and-save, tiered discounts, and more.
  • Evergreen offers. Standing incentives with no expiration: welcome offers, first-order discounts, loyalty incentives, and referral programs.
  • Price features. How competitors frame and present price: markdowns, everyday value pricing, bundle pricing, and subscriptions. These are competitive signals worth tracking, even though they aren't offers on their own.

Standing commerce policies like free shipping, returns, and store pickup are separated out as well, so they stay out of your limited-time reporting.

The split between evergreen and limited-time is where most teams will feel the difference. You can compare a competitor's active campaigns against their always-on offers without sorting mixed results by hand. Because every mechanic is classified the same way across every brand you track, you can also compare promotional tactics across competitors on equal terms.

Filter competitor promotions in the redesigned Promotions Explorer

The Explorer now gives each category its own tab.

Limited-Time shows promotional events and campaigns with start and end dates, status, channel, and campaign grouping. Filter by mechanic, including sitewide sales, BOGO, gift-with-purchase, spend-and-save, tiered discounts, and sale-on-sale, to see exactly who's running what.

Evergreen surfaces standing offers like first-order discounts, loyalty incentives, referral programs, and trade-in rebates. Filter by customer eligibility and by sales channel, whether online-only, in-store, or app-exclusive.

Price Features gives pricing strategy its own view, covering markdowns, everyday value, tiered and bundle pricing, and subscriptions.

Questions like "Which competitors ran a gift-with-purchase last month?" or "Who offers an app-exclusive welcome discount?" now take a couple of filters instead of a manual review.

Faster, more consistent AI answers about competitor promotions

Classifications are now built into the data itself. Previously, the Agent had to sort promotional content on the fly each time you asked a question. That work is now done before you ask, so prompts complete faster.

Consistency improves too. The same promotional mechanic is tagged and reported the same way every time, so answers line up across prompts and sessions. Because the Agent draws on the expanded source coverage, its answers also include SMS and social promotions that were previously out of view.

Frequently asked questions

What channels does ShopVision track competitor promotions on?

ShopVision tracks competitor promotions across website screenshots, email, SMS, and social. SMS and social coverage are new with the enhanced Promotions experience.

Does ShopVision track promotions in paid ads?

Not currently. Ad data skews toward static prices and stale snapshots, so we've left it out to keep promotions reporting accurate. We'll keep evaluating it.

What is the difference between a limited-time promotion and an evergreen offer?

A limited-time promotion has a defined run, like a sitewide sale, BOGO, or gift-with-purchase. An evergreen offer is always on, like a welcome offer, first-order discount, or loyalty incentive. ShopVision tracks them separately so standing offers don't crowd out active campaigns.

What is a price feature?

A price feature is how a competitor frames and presents price, such as markdowns, everyday value pricing, bundle pricing, or subscriptions. Price features aren't offers on their own, so ShopVision tracks them in a dedicated view.

Are free shipping and returns policies counted as promotions?

No. Standing commerce policies like free shipping, returns, and store pickup are separated from limited-time promotions reporting.

How does the ShopVision Agent use promotions data?

The Agent queries promotions that are already classified, so it answers faster and reports the same mechanic the same way every time. Its answers now include SMS and social promotions.
